Registry essentials for your postpartum season

When preparing for the days and weeks following my son’s birth, I knew I would need all the help that I could get.

Snuggling in bed with my babe was the top priority, but dang. When it’s your first go at motherhood you can really underestimate all of the needs you might have postpartum.

I obsessed over freezer meal necessities but definitely forgot some of the basic needs my own body would require, besides proper nourishment (which cannot be emphasized enough postpartum).

So while you’re planning out nutrient-dense meals for yourself, and hopefully delegating some of your favorite recipes for friends and family members to drop by… don’t forget about all the little things that will also massively bless your tender and healing body.

Here are those that I either wished I bought, regret not adding to my registry, or was abundantly glad I had on hand…

  • Bamboo breast pads - ($14.99) The constant leaking and strong let-downs consistently soaked my tops and bras, leading to annoyance and overstimulation. After a quicker Amazon delivery of these organic, reusable nursing pads, I always had a pair in my shirt. This is now what I love to gift my expectant friends.

  • Herbal bath soak - ($10.00) My body ached for this delightful bath soak. Boiling the herbs on our stove filled our home with comforting and familiar scents of lavender and red raspberry leaf. On the days I felt really sore, or when nothing seemed to soothe the hemorrhoids, sitting in this bath soak made things much better. Bonus: I brought my son in for his first bath, once his cord fell off, and it was a precious bonding moment for the both of us.

  • Heating pad - ($20.00) Any kind will do. Adding warmth to my womb, especially in the first few days when still experiencing after-birth pains as the baby latched, felt like I was sunbathing from my bed.

  • Afterease tincture - ($14.99) Speaking of afterbirth contractions, this tincture was wonderful for helping the ache subside. I kept it by my bed and would take a dropper full right into my mouth when putting the baby on the breast.

  • Happy Ducts - ($14.99)This tincture, on the other hand, I learned about months later and now tell all mom’s it’s something valuable to have on hand. Especially if this ain’t your first rodeo and you’re familiar with the awful sensation of clogged ducts and impending mastitis symptoms. The herbs inside support your lymphatic system to keep things flowing- in case any inflammation arises.

  • A cozy robe and sets of pjs - ($29.99) This one speaks for itself, right? Having cute pjs to lounge around it (and probably change often due to baby spit-up, pee, or breast milk) is a must in my book. The Stars Above robe linked was a last-minute pregnant purchase I did not regret! It was soft, breathable, and perfect for the summer months postpartum. I honestly could have used an additional one with all the laundry and clothing changes needed in the early days.

  • Silver nursing covers - ($35.00) Don’t knock ‘em till you try ‘em! These, like most things on this list, lived by my bedside and I’d slide them into my bra between nursing sessions. The silver soothed my sore nipples and promoted healing.

  • Tallow balm - My nips, lips, baby’s dry spots, cradle cap…this list goes on. Pure tallow from Haus Apocathery hydrated and healed our cracked and dry skin between both baby and me, and safely! With pure, organic ingredients I could literally eat, I never had to worry about what might be transferring on or into the baby from my own skin. Also great for stretch marks while pregnant!

Consider adding these to your registry or simply passing them along to girlfriends or family when they ask what you need. Sure, baby clothes and trending aesthetic nursery pieces make us happy, but nourishing our body with warmth, healing, and comfort in the early postpartum days truly makes such a difference in how you feel in the new body you’re now inhabiting.
